The origins of the brand date back to 1912, when Karosseriewerke Weinsberg was founded by Gustav Alt and Wilhelm Schuhmacher in the town of the same name in Baden-Württemberg. Originally specializing in classic car body construction, the company worked with renowned car manufacturers such as BMW, Daimler-Benz and Opel. In 1938, the company was sold to Fiat, whereupon the legendary Fiat 500 Topolino, among others, was produced in Weinsberg. 

Foundation & company history

A milestone in the company's history was the year 1969, when WEINSBERG presented the first camper van based on the Fiat 238. This innovative vehicle marked the beginning of a new era and established the lasting success of the WEINSBERG camper vans, which to this day stand for sophisticated design, high functionality and a strong price-performance ratio. This was followed in 1981 by the WEINSBERG Kosmos, the first camper van on the then new Fiat Ducato chassis, which set new standards with its compact dimensions and generous living space. 

In 1992, the motorhome division of Karosseriewerke was taken over by Tabbert Industrie AG, whereby WEINSBERG was integrated into today's Knaus Tabbert AG. Since then, the brand has continued to develop and is now an integral part of the European caravanning market. In 2003, KNAUS and TABBERT merged, and in 2008 WEINSBERG was realigned within the newly formed Knaus Tabbert GmbH in order to appeal to younger customers with an excellent price-performance ratio and uncomplicated handling.
