Foundation & company history
Laika was founded in 1964 by Giovambattista Moscardini in San Casciano in Val di Pesa near Florence. The brand name is a tribute to the Soviet dog Laika, the first living creature in space - a symbol of pioneering spirit, new beginnings and discovery. This philosophy still characterizes the brand today.
The first factory opening was in 1974 and with it the transition to industrial production.
The first product was the „Laika 500“ caravan, which could be towed by a Fiat 500. This was followed in 1977 by the „Motorpolo“ model, the first fully-fledged motorhome. The „Ecovip“ series, which is still popular today, was launched in 1992, followed by the luxurious „Kreos“ series in 1999.
